Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said India was emerging as a preferred destination for global investment and manufacturing as he reached out to European industry leaders during an address at the European Round Table for Industry (ERT) in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The Prime Minister used the interaction to push for stronger India-Europe economic cooperation at a time when both sides are looking to deepen trade and strategic partnerships through the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). He also stressed the need for trusted global supply chains amid growing geopolitical uncertainty.

Sharing details of the interaction on social media platform X, PM Modi said he was “honoured” to address the ERT and discuss the growing convergence between India and Europe.
“Honoured to have addressed the European Round Table for Industry (ERT) in Gothenburg yesterday. My speech covered the growing India-Europe convergence, the opportunities opened by the India-EU FTA, India’s reform-driven growth journey and the vast scope for collaboration in technology, clean energy, infrastructure, mobility and healthcare,” he wrote.
According to an official statement, the Prime Minister highlighted India’s push towards reforms, digital infrastructure expansion and manufacturing growth while inviting European businesses to increase investments across sectors including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, telecom, clean energy, healthcare and deep-tech manufacturing.
PM Modi highlights India-EU FTA and supply chain cooperation
During the address, PM Modi described the proposed India-EU FTA as a transformative partnership that could unlock fresh opportunities in trade, technology, services and resilient supply chains.
He also referred to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), saying such connectivity initiatives could significantly strengthen economic linkages between India and Europe.
The Prime Minister underlined the importance of building diversified and reliable supply chains and pointed to India’s infrastructure and energy transition plans, including investments in renewable energy, transport, logistics, green hydrogen and nuclear power.
Reiterating the government’s “Design for India, Make in India and Export from India” vision, PM Modi said India’s young and skilled workforce would play a major role in driving future global economic growth.
Swedish PM, EU leaders attend industry interaction
PM Modi also met Swedish business leaders in Gothenburg alongside Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria was also present during the interaction.
In another post on X, the Prime Minister said discussions focused on strengthening India-Sweden economic ties in sectors such as AI, research and development, healthcare and security.
“Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and I met business leaders of Sweden in Gothenburg last evening. Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria also took part in this interaction. We had wide ranging conversations with the business leaders on how economic linkages between India and Sweden can be enhanced, particularly in futuristic technologies, R&D, AI, security and healthcare,” he posted.
The interaction was hosted by Volvo Group and attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, senior European industry leaders and representatives from leading Indian and European companies.
PM Modi also proposed that the India-Europe CEOs Roundtable be held annually and suggested setting up an India Desk at the ERT.
